Hyundai, Kia stands out in EV biz

Ioniq 5, EV6 beat competitors in inaugural awards

Bestcarsoftheyear.com picked the best electric vehicles of the year where South Korea’s Hyundai Motor’s Ioniq 5 and Kia’s EV6 stood out ahead of their competitors.

In the inaugural awards, Audi E-tron GT took third place, followed by Toyota GR Yaris, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Fiat 500, and Porsche Taycan.

Also included in the top-10 list are Citroen Ami, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, and VW Polo.

Taking part in the judging panel of the awards were leaders in the automotive industry like designers, engineers, motorsport pioneers, and journalists.

Hyundai and Kia, which introduced their EV models based on its dedicated platform E-GMP, welcomed the awards.

“We are proud that our first two dedicated battery electric vehicles are jointly honored as the first-ever Best Cars of the Year,” Hyundai’s EV division Kim Heung-soo said.

“It sends a clear message that not only are both Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 world-class electric vehicles but also that we are on the right track with our electrification strategy. The world can expect more great EV models from both brands in the coming year.”

The Ioniq 5 and the EV6 will be on display at the best cars of the year stand during the British Motor Show this summer. Thereafter, the process will start to pick next year’s winners.
